Teleconference and presentation room acoustics emerged as a separate category after the pandemic. Far-end audio clarity, microphone side-noise rejection, reverberation control and camera-side audio quality are designed together. RT60 0.3-0.5 s and NC 30 are critical targets for these spaces.
Why is a teleconference room special?
A standard meeting room serves face-to-face communication, but a video-conference room must also serve two-way remote communication. The far-end participant perceives speech as clean or distorted depending on the room's reverberation; if the mic picks up side noise the meeting quality drops.
Typical problems
- Speech reaching the far end distorted by reverberation
- Microphone catching keyboard / paper noise
- HVAC fan noise entering the microphone
- Side-room conversation audible inside
- Far-end participant gets acoustic feedback in glass-walled rooms
Solution components
- Acoustic ceiling panels: NRC ≥ 0.80, for RT60 0.3-0.5 s
- Wall absorber panels: fabric- or felt-faced panels on the opposite wall
- Acoustic door: Rw 32+ dB (prevents meeting bleed)
- Acoustic glazing: double or laminated glass for glass-walled rooms
- HVAC duct silencer: stops fan noise reaching the mic
- Acoustic carpet or rubber floor: side-noise control
Calibration for hybrid meetings
On every teleconference room we deliver, we run a camera + microphone test after the build — talking with someone listening from the far end, validating real-world audio quality and optimising panel count/placement if needed.
Target performance
- RT60: 0.3-0.5 seconds
- NC: 30 (very quiet)
- Partition Rw: 42-48 dB
- Acoustic door Rw: 32+ dB
- Microphone pickup clean (minimal side noise)
Time and cost
A single teleconference room takes 3-5 days. In offices with multiple rooms we work in weekly stages.
