Acoustic underlay mat is a compressed sheet/roll product based on rubber granules, cork or elastomeric blends, placed under a floating screed. With ΔLw 18-28 dB impact-noise reduction it is the base acoustic layer for residential, office, hotel and school floors.
What is acoustic underlay mat?
Acoustic underlay mat is the elastic interlayer between the structural concrete slab and the finished screed. By isolating the structural mass from the carrier (mass-spring-mass principle) it lowers impact and vibration energy. Available in rubber, cork, rubber-cork combination and XPE/EPS variants — a broad family.
Technical data
- Types: rubber, cork, rubber-cork, elastomeric
- Thickness: 3 / 5 / 8 / 10 / 15 mm
- Density: 180-900 kg/m³ (by type)
- ΔLw: 18-28 dB
- Dynamic stiffness: 10-50 MN/m³
- Fire class: certified BS 476 / EN 13501 versions
Where it is used
- Apartment, flat and villa floors
- Hotel rooms, corridors and lobbies
- Office and commercial floors
- Schools, kindergartens, hospitals
- Call centres and meeting floors
- Fitness, dance and stage studios
Which type to choose?
- Rubber mat: heavy impact, gyms, stages, MEP rooms
- Cork mat: light impact, residential, kids' rooms
- Combined (rubber+cork): balanced sound + thermal
- Elastomeric: low-frequency vibration-sensitive areas
Installation
The mat is laid flat on a clean concrete base without overlap; joints are sealed with acoustic tape; a perimeter strip is left along walls to break the screed-wall contact. A 4-6 cm reinforced screed is poured on top, and after curing the finish is applied.
