What is floor sound insulation?
Floor sound insulation cuts structural vibration transmission with an elastic acoustic mat placed between the building slab and the final floor finish (parquet, ceramic, carpet). Footsteps, furniture movement and play impacts on the floor above reach the floor below as structural vibration in standard builds; a correctly designed floating floor blocks 85-90% of this transmission.

How does the floating-screed system work?
Floating screed is a concrete screed layer fully decoupled from the walls and substructure. Acoustic matting is laid; 50-80 mm of concrete screed is poured on top; resilient edge tape is applied to the walls so structural contact is broken. The floor truly "floats"; impact vibration cannot transfer to the structure.
Typical application process
- Elastic acoustic matting (5-25 mm) laid on the existing concrete slab.
- Resilient edge tape (10 mm) at wall sides.
- Polyethylene separation layer over the matting.
- 50-80 mm concrete screed poured.
- Final floor finish on top (parquet / ceramic / carpet).
- Final measurement documents the ΔLw value.
Which mat type to choose?
- Rubber sheet (5-25 mm): high impact resistance, ideal for heavy traffic — office, fitness
- Cork mat (3-10 mm): natural material, classic under parquet
- Acoustic polyester mat (5-20 mm): broad use, good price/performance
- Composite acoustic sheet: rubber + cork — for premium

Build-height impact
The floating-screed system raises the floor by 10-15 cm. In renovations, existing door sizes and threshold heights need to be reassessed. In new builds, this height should be planned at design stage.
